The game is defined as a strategy game meant to be played with duos, where each player will represent: 1 jaguar or 14 dogs.
The Jogo da onça is a turn based board game, one player plays with the jaguar, which have a movement mechanic similar to checkers, the other player play with the dogs. The dogs cannot "jump over" other pieces. The jaguar objective is eat 5 dogs, while dog's objective is surround the jaguar in a way it can't make a move.
